Traffic Snarls

We all know that population explosion compromises our life in many ways.  Now any planning for infrastructure or basic amenities is done should be done keeping in view of future increase of population.  The old facilities that are available should be used precariously and new ones to be developed keeping the population growth in another 50 years.   I could understand this when I visited Madina – Pathargatti shopping areas in the old city of Hyderabad.  Here there are multifloored buildings each floor having many shops and even the tiny space 3x5 feet along side the stair case accommodates a shop. In these shops crores of business takes place everyday and thousands of people will be moving in the narrow lanes of 5-10 feet. Some even bring personal vehicles - two-wheelers, and the transport vehicles like rickshaws, autos, tempos and mini lorries also try to squeeze through these roads.  If one wants to learn how to move on a vehicle or walk through narrow lanes without getting hurt should visit Madina, Pathargatti and Begum Bazaar in Hyderabad.  Here are few photos I have taken sitting as pillion rider on the scooter. Initially I was afraid that we may not be able to move out of traffic web and will be stranded for an hour.  There is not even place to get down and walk forward or backward.  Fortunately everything cleared in 15 minutes and we were out.  Again behind us there is another traffic jam.  People here know the knack to negotiate and move out forward with a smile. That is India.

Aleru Bridge

Part of Hyderabad to Warangal route is part of National Highway 163.  The development of ring-road has made the journey smooth and fast.  I am moving by a four-wheeler on this route regularly since 1997. There are trees on either side of the road.
In the months of July till February the greenery is soothing and the gulmohar trees make the journey on this road a pleasant trip.  As part of developing infrastructure there is great deal of change on this road with extension of width of the road and ring road formation.  Across the stretch of 135 kilometers we touch many villages and towns.  The development of ring-road has completely excluded passage through Bhongir, Ghatkesar and Bibinagar.

Bhongir Khila
Though many changes for good have happened on this road one thing hasn’t changed.  The bridge at Aleru is very narrow and the boundary pillars are far apart. It is dangerous walk for pedestrians.
Aleru Bridge
In the past 17 years few bridges and culverts were repaired and widened and railings built.  But this bridge somehow missed any betterment. Moreover few pillars are damaged due to hit by vehicles.  If it is a heavy vehicle only one vehicle can move on this bridge.  Others have to wait until it is cleared off.  In the recent past one Warangal MP’s vehicle had drifted from the bridge and fell down and MP sustained injuries too.  Even after that no action is taken to make it safer for travel.  Now that Telangana government is formed and boasting about wonderful development, I hope that this bridge at Aleru will be widened and made safe for travelers on four-wheelers and pedestrians too.
