In the month of March I had been to Mumbai to attend a family function. I did visit this place few times earlier and had seen places of tourist importance. Any place has 2 or 3 most
important tourist places and we generally visit only these places. I had a day of leisure after the function. So I wanted to visit a place near to Borivilli. Visit to Kanhari caves was suggested. And we had gone to Sanjay Gandhi National Park from where we could reach these
caves. By the time we reached the caves it was almost past 11AM. It was a hot sunny day and we could visit only few caves.
Kanhari caves are very old caves, a place of Buddhist monastry which is
more than
thousand years old. There are more than hundred caves and we could see only
a few of
importance and at lower level of the hill. These were beautiful and
spacious, some double storied or having attic, also there are platforms - benches to sit or sleep.
Elegant pictures of Buddha and
monks in meditative posture and men and women are carved on the walls. There are even underground water sources. I felt like visiting this place once again
in early winter season to see greenery and without the fear of sunstroke see all caves.
