Everyone in India is aware that Deepavali is festival of lights. The word 'Deepavali' means line of lamps. On that day Goddess Laxmi is worshiped. This is an important festival for business people in Telangana region. Traditionally business people close the old - previous accounts and start new accounts. We all know that though it is a holiday stock market opens and token trade is carried out on the night of Deepavali.

In Telangana region in many households traditionally 'nomu' - 'Kedareshwara Vratamu' is celebrated. As men worship and do special pooja of Laxmi Devi, woman worship Lord Vishnu, husband of Sri Maha Laxmi at home. Special pooja material for 'nomu' is sold on the roadside shops a day prior to the festival and also on the morning of the festival. The other special items of sale are pumpkins and gourds and strings of green or red chillies and lemon . These are used to ward off evil eye.
