Deepavali

Everyone in India is aware that Deepavali is festival of lights.  The word 'Deepavali' means line of  lamps. On that day  Goddess Laxmi  is worshiped.  This is an important festival for business people in Telangana region.  Traditionally business people close the old - previous accounts and start new accounts.   We all know that though it is a holiday stock market opens and token trade is carried out on the night of Deepavali.
'Nomu'  Essentials
In Telangana region in many households traditionally 'nomu' - 'Kedareshwara Vratamu' is celebrated.  As men worship and do special pooja of Laxmi Devi, woman worship Lord  Vishnu, husband of Sri Maha Laxmi at home.  Special pooja material for 'nomu' is sold on the roadside shops a day prior to the festival and also on the morning of the festival.   The other special items of sale are pumpkins and gourds and strings of green or red chillies and lemon .  These are used to ward off evil eye.
Warangal is a vibrant place and every festival is celebrated traditionally and with great reverence.  Visit to Hanamkonda chowrasta on the day of any festival and a day prior to it is colorful as festival specific materials are sold all along the roadside.

Let this festival of light drive away the darkness of political apathy in Telangana and light of peaceful state formation take place.

chikkumudi - Telangaana riddle

Scared

The battle........

The parliament is relieved that Anna Hazare had broken his fast.  Any person taking up an issue of public interest and prepared to give up life will be supported by one and all.  His life becomes very precious to all.  When the country is deep in corruption and people are in despair, AH became symbol of hope and struggle, especially for the youth and all the urban middle class.  The solidarity Anna received is the expression of strength of the people to unite to fight against corruption when a leader of clean character is there to stand out for them.
The acceptance of demands of Anna, ‘sense of the House’ in principle to forward Anna’s demands for consideration to the standing committee is the win of Parliament.  The acceptance of Anna’s demands made team A is happy, and pronouncing ‘sense of the House’ declared the superiority of the House.  By referring the issue to the standing committee, for the time being, peace prevailed and there is celebration.  Standing committee will take its own time for deliberations on these demands and also various ‘anti-corruption’ bills forwarded to it.   When the LokPal bill itself could lay on the shelf for more than four decades, is there a possibility of expecting a strong ‘anti-corruption’ bill to bring about by the parliament in at least another four year?  Every parliament session is boasting of introducing ‘women reservation’ bill for more than a decade.  But still it is pending.  The Home Minister as representative of Government of India proclaimed to have initiated the formation of Telangaana state.  But under the pressure of few unscrupulous rich politicians’ money showers the UPA government failed to implement it.  To expect a strong Lok pal in a short period is just but a dream.
Is Lok pal bill the only remedy to end corruption in the nation?  Don’t we already have appropriate laws to punish the corrupt persons?  There are certain statutory bodies under the constitution to prevent malpractices and corruption and make people accountable at higher places.  In the present day, due to the interference of party/Government, these institutions have failed to gain credibility.  If the election commission strictly imposes its rules on expenditure of the candidates contesting, disqualifies them earliest on knowing their criminal records will not the criminals decrease in parliament?  The CAG which presents its report on economical frauds is criticised by the parliamentarians as being unscientific and disregards its report.  In the history of CBI, is there any politician who was charge sheeted was conclusively proved to be guilty and punished?  Even if we get a LokPal as a statutory body, when the members in it are always obliging the ruling party or the ruling party uses it as another appendage, the corruption will not stop.   Corruption can be stopped when every individual sees to it that all the relevant laws are strictly adhered to.  The person who makes the law and who implements it should also adhere to this principle.  Then corruption can end.

                  ****************************************************

The increasing activity of electronic media and social networking has made present day struggle different.  Their contribution is becoming immense and inevitable in any struggle world over.  The electronic media in particular has become a tool to spread information to rural corners.  This is being misused by hundreds of channels which are coming up these days.  Now-a-days every party has more than one channel and there are many regional channels.  There is propagation of paid news.  Many channels have their own agenda and propagate what they want to.  Only partial information is divulged or a different twist is give to an issue.  It appears, that except a few, all channels are biased.  The immense competition between the channels is making them to keep having breaking news 24hrs.  It wants to present always hot and sizzling news to increase viewer ship.   It seems the national channels mostly concentrate on cities and where it can reach easily and stay comfortably.   Anything happening in the capital cities gains prominence.  This could be one reason for not presenting the struggle of Irom Sharmila who is fasting for the last 11 years in Manipur demanding the repealment of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, which is often abused.   There is no media hype about it, for she is supported by local people and there are no rich and famous personalities are NGO’s supporting her.   The failure of giving due importance to the death of a social activist swami in Haridwar during fast of Ramdev Baba and the recent gunning down of Shehla Masood in Bhopal 16th of August is again failure of media.  I doubt whether there was any preplanning of these two deaths, because there two occurred when media attention is completely diverted on a hyped issue.
The Telangaana issue also not receiving due attention because of media bias and the influence of corrupt politicians at all levels.  This struggle is going on for more than five decades.  The Home Minister of India who proclaimed the formation of state had failed to carry out the process being under the influence of monetary power of Seemaandhra MPs.   These Seemaandhra MPs are so tactful and rich that they could even purchase the members of a fact finding committee which was to present true situation in the region.  Though the committee felt separate Telangaana is a genuine demand, it added a chapter (may be) given by Seemandhraas how to suppress the movement by police and paramilitary force.
As long as people are greedy, selfish and vote for money no law or act can curb corruption.  When people of integrity with orientation towards social work/development are elected then a better society will evolve.
The battle has just begun.

Anna's Fast

It is 11th day of Anna Hazare’s fast demanding implementation of Jan Lok Pal bill drafted by his team.  The present day politicians who repeatedly take up fast but fall sick just in two or three days should feel ashamed of their health.  Anna Hazare’s robust health is due to his regular physical activity and healthy food habits and activity.  Even the youth of today have a lesson to learn from his life on healthy living.
Anna has to think of withdrawing his fast.  In democracy though the parliament is supreme to rule the nation, the members in it are there because of people.  It is the people who have given them that power.  People have to respect parliament and parliament has the responsibility to give due consideration to people.
Parliament should take Team Anna into confidence and discuss the Lok Pal and Jan Lok Pal drafts and finally draft a bill to curb corruption.  This should have an organisation which should be autonomous with branches at district and state levels.  The organisation should have investigative and punitive authority.  All the related government departments should help the organisation with investigation of corruption charges and also in imposing punishment.  All the activity should be carried out in a transparent way.  Even the members of the organisation should be made accountable by appropriate clauses in the bill.
People hope to get a Lok Pal bill which makes everyone in the society accountable and end corruption at all levels in due course.

Telangaana cooks on the Roads

To achieve Telangaana statehood has become essential for the people in this region to enjoy rightful share in the development.   Though various political parties are still working only in view of political benefits, all telangaana people have united and are doing unified struggle to achieve statehood.  As part of this ongoing agitation, in response to call given by JAC (Joint Action Committee), people of telangaana participated in the program – “vanta vaarpu” – telangaana cooks on the roads.  All the people have participated in this to show solidarity.  Doctors who teach about hygiene and cleanliness also have come on to the road, to cook and have meals on the road.  This is symbolic of the lives of telangaana people who were deprived of their rightful share in the  state and lead a dignified life.
These are few pics of the activity in front of Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, on 12th July  “vanta vaarpu”.

Telangana Travails

This blog was written almost two weeks ago. Actually I wanted to post it on 17th of this month.  But I could do it today.

The changes that are taking place in Telangaana in the past three weeks are remarkable and historic.  The unexpected demise of Prof. Jaya Shankar Sir was shocking to all Telangaanites.  He is synonymous with Telangaana.  Every Telangaanites felt like losing their god father.
Knowing about him made me feel that he is born with the purpose of freeing Telangaana from oppression.  He lived in Nizam’s Telagaana, aware of ‘rajaakaars’, armed struggle, lived in Telangaana that has become part of Indian Union, and Telangaana which continued to struggle for self rule and self respect in Andhra Pradesh ruled by Seemaandhraas.  He was part of Telangaana agitation in 1969.  He preserved and spread his vast knowledge about the loss of Telangaanites and the plundering of various resources of Telangaana by Andhra rulers.  Being a teacher, he always spread his knowledge for the benefit of students and younger generation.  His efforts of 60 years finally started giving results with formation of Telangaana Rashtra Samiti under the leadership of Shri K. Chandra Shekara Rao.  He always worked for redeeming Telangaana from the shackles of Andhra rule.  His dream was the coming generations should live in Telangaana ruled and developed by Telangaanites, a socialist Telangaana.
Now he may not be living.  But the knowledge and guidance he left behind are the acting forces to direct Telangaana agitation to reach its goal.  I feel his spiritual guidance has made all the elected representatives to take the present course of action.  His blessings from heaven will help us achieve Telangaana state in due course of time.
Jaya Shankar Acharya’s teachings are like Geethaacharya’s teachings to Arjuna.
Jaya Shankar sir is now called as ‘Father of Telangaana’.
Jayaho Jaya Shankar.

                      **********************************

In December 2010, when the Indian government has backtracked on its word to initiate the formation of Telangaana state fearing blackmail politics and succumbing to the weight of money bags from Seemaandhra capitalists’,  except the TRS MLAs all other MLAs refused to resign fearing the wrath of their party ‘high command’.  They gave different reasons, the ruling party saying that they have faith that the high command will definitely give separate state and the other part with Seemaandhra person as its chief pointing that unless ruling MLAs resign they will not resign.  This fiasco had finally ended when the Congress MLAs decided to resign en masse on 4th July 2011.  The TDP MLAs also resigned half an hour early so as to gain people’s faith.
What precipitated the resignations of Congress MLAs; I feel it is the spiritual power of Jaya Shankar Acharya that had driven them to take a confirmed stand on separate Telangaana.  Now for all the MLAs this step is no turn back step.  They all should see to it that Telangaana state is formed shortly or get out of the parties and join people in their agitation.
Prof. Jaya Shankar said once that telangaana in not given by any political party.  The people of Telangaana will struggle and achieve it.  Amen.

                 ***************************************

Telangaana struggle has come to a stage that every person living on the soil of Telangaana has to take a stand on this issue.  All the people’s representatives have to express their solidarity toward the cause of Telangaana state formation.  More than 90% tendered their resignations and are behind people.  Like elsewhere we too have a few black sheep.  I wish MIM MLAs resign and join the people of Telangaana and make all Muslims feel authentically part of this historic struggle.
It is good gesture of Secunderabad MLA, a native of Andhra, has resigned respecting the sentiments of the people she is representing.  Here I should mention about a man who always speaks of rights and responsibilities and constitution, and talks of bringing governance to the public, who wants smaller units of governance, never gives a clear stand on the formation of separate state of Telangaana.  This man, who always speaks of the corruption in political parties and politicians, is blind to the oppression of Seemandhraas rule on Telangaanites.  He fails to stand by his own principles of bringing governance to people.  Since my awareness of the worldly goings I find him as the greatest hypocrite of this generation.  Every telangaanite can understand who this intellectual personality is.  This is Mr. Jaya Prakash Narayan.  This name a generation ago had commanded immense respect, as the man with that name had led a revolution to bring down a dictatorial prime minister.   This man also with magnanimous intellectual jabber had gained some good reputation.  Now this name makes me understand the changing times and the hypocrisy in the present society.

*************************************

Politicians always do things that help them to gain power.  Though they talk of benefitting public who form the vote bank, the benefit they gain is more than what public get.  The needs of the people and their agitation to fulfil it are used for political gain.  Public interest stands secondary.
Many people say had there been Rajashekhar Reddy the present turmoil in telangaana would not have occurred.  May be true.  This turmoil wouldn’t have happened now but would have been delayed for some years.  He knew the peoples desire for Telangaana, being a factionist from Seema he could have suppressed it like he had killed almost all the naxals who were called for a discussion to join the mainstream society.  Nature knew his power.  Nature knows the struggle of Telangaana people.  Where people cannot act, nature acts.
Chandra babu Naidu, a back stabber, thinks him to be shrewd politician.  His principle of two eyes and squinted vision has caused 600 deaths of Telangaana youth.  Even today he doesn’t have a clear cut policy.  He encourages Telangaana MLAs to resign and at the same time holds meetings with Seemaandhra representatives and encourages them to counter Telangaana agitation.  He will have to become blind in due course of time.  He needs political crutches in future to survive in Andhra politics.

                  *********************************

All the political parties speak of democracy and people’s rights.  They talk big as if carrying out the welfare of the people on their shoulders.  The pathetic situation in Andhra Pradesh is that, people talking of retaining Andhra Pradesh have respect for the aspirations and emotions of Seemaandhraas, but not for that of Telangaanites.  Demanding their rightful share in employment and development in Telangaana is treated as an act of militancy and treason.  They want to suppress this genuine demand by deployment of BSF and CRPF.  The activity that is going on in Osmania University clearly presents the state of affairs in Telangaana region of Andhra Pradesh.  Osmania University being the nerve centre of Telangaana  agitation, the AP government wants to suppress their activity of life in toto by confining them to the campus by fencing around it and not allowing any outsiders into the campus.  All their activity is strictly under the police surveillance.  On slightest pretext the police resort to lathi charge, tear gassing and firing with rubber bullets directly on to the person causing physical injury.  Their unprovoked hurting of the students physically and chemically will cause future health problems in victims.  The activity at OU is directly affecting students at the place and indirectly it is making all the people in Telagaana to make a strong resolution to fight till separate state is achieved.  The more the oppression the strong is revolution.

                     *******************************

All the political parties in AP, the regional and national are aware of the plight of Telangaana, all accepted that separate telangaana state is a genuine demand.  In view of their political mileage no party is taking a concrete decision.  They are all more worried about their party gains in next elections.  Just to pos pone the issue a committee was sent to AP for wide consultations.  But the Krishna committee report has turned out to be a ‘nikrushta’ (worst) report.  It had taken into consideration of the majority Andhra people’s opinion and admitting that the Telagaana demand is genuine and suggested ways to suppress it.  Justice Krishna is not the Krishna of Dwapara Yuga.  He is the Krishna of kaliyuga and sold out to money bags and could not side the righteous demand.  He could be measured by money bags but not by 'Tulasi'.
The political party at centre is more worried about its numbers and power play.  They seem to be least bothered about the disturbed lives of people in the state.  Academic, social and professional life is getting disturbed.  There is uncertainty always.  The centre should take a decision and put an end to this turmoil.  It should impose strict party discipline.  The party with two eyes should have proper vision and bind its MLAs by it.  It should not play carrot and stick policy with Telangaana issue, allowing Telangaana MLAs to resign and at the same time funding and encouraging rented Samaikyaandhra agitation.
Telangaana people still have faith in the democracy.  It is time for the parties in the centre and state to take proper steps to end this turmoil and bring peace into the lives of Telangaana and Seemaandhra.

                   **********************************
Now a new party has held it’s plenary.  It is again a ‘vaarastwapu’ (hereditary) party.  Everybody was eagerly waiting to know the stand of the party about telangaana.   The son of the father, like his father has respect for Telangaana sentiment, and incapable of taking a decision.  Like son, like father.  A man who joined a rival party to protest against Telangaana formation in the parliament has concrete opinion in his mind.  Every politician respects Telangaana sentiment, understands the genuinity of the demand but hates to lose fiefdom over it.
Telangaana is not a simple sentiment.  This is struggle for existence.  Do not belittle it calling a sentiment.  This struggle for existence goes on as long as there is life.

Kanhari Caves

In the month of March I had been to Mumbai to attend a family function. I did visit this place few times earlier and had seen places of tourist importance. Any place has 2 or 3 most
important tourist places and we generally visit only these places. I had a day of leisure after the function. So I wanted to visit a place near to Borivilli. Visit to Kanhari caves was suggested. And we had gone to Sanjay Gandhi National Park from where we could reach these
caves. By the time we reached the caves it was almost past 11AM. It was a hot sunny day and we could visit only few caves.

Kanhari caves are very old caves, a place of Buddhist monastry which is
more than
thousand years old. There are more than hundred caves and we could see only
a few of
importance and at lower level of the hill. These were beautiful and
spacious, some double storied or having attic, also there are platforms - benches to sit or sleep.
Elegant pictures of Buddha and
monks in meditative posture and men and women are carved on the walls. There are even underground water sources. I felt like visiting this place once again
in early winter season to see greenery and without the fear of sunstroke see all caves.
